Rootstock, formerly RSK, is a smart-contract layer for Bitcoin that works as a sidechain and enables Bitcoin DeFi. It is fully EVM-compatible, supports Solidity contracts, and relies on merge mining with Bitcoin miners, giving the network a strong security profile while allowing BTC-based smart-contract execution through rBTC.
