Description of PaLM

PaLM (Pathways Language Model) is a family of large language models from Google, including PaLM 540B and the newer PaLM 2 generation. These are dense decoder-only Transformer models scaled up to 540 billion parameters and trained on hundreds of billions of tokens (around 780 billion) of diverse data: web pages, books, news, code, and dialogues. PaLM demonstrates strong results in complex reasoning, text problem solving, programming, and translation tasks, especially in few-shot and chain-of-thought scenarios. Access to PaLM and PaLM 2 is provided through Google Cloud (Vertex AI), which simplifies scaling, monitoring, and compliance with security requirements.
